Discount Obscura: 5 Auto Insurance Discounts You've Probably Never Heard Of

Blog

Good discounts aren't that hard to find, especially when it comes to your auto insurance. But while you know about common discounts like those for keeping a clean driving record or insuring multiple vehicles on the same policy, there are plenty of discounts out there that you might not have heard about. The following takes a look at some of these relatively obscure auto insurance discounts.

Payment Method Discount

Believe it or not, how you pay for your insurance can have a big impact on your savings. For instance, some insurance providers offer discounts for setting up and using automatic payments through your bank account or credit/debit card. Others may offer significant discounts for paying your entire premium upfront instead of paying through monthly installments. Some providers may even offer discounts for receiving paperless statements via email or text message.

Multiple Coverage Discount

Having an additional insurance policy with the same company can also net you big discounts. For instance, you may qualify for a discount on your auto insurance simply by having a homeowner's insurance or recreational vehicle insurance policy with the same provider. The more policies you have with the same provider, the bigger your discount may be, in some cases.

Telemetric Data Discount

Telemetric data is one way that insurance companies gather accurate information about their customers. It can also be a way to reduce your auto insurance premiums by a significant amount. Some providers offer major discounts for using telemetric devices that keep tabs on your driving habits. If your provider offers usage-based insurance, you may be able to maximize your savings even further.

Affiliation Discount

Being a member of an exclusive group can have its privileges, especially when it comes to your auto insurance. If you're currently a member of an alumni association, credit union, nonprofit organization or any other exclusive group, you may be able to benefit from a discount simply by being a member of said group. Some insurance companies partner with various groups and associations to offer affiliation discounts as a membership perk.

Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Discount

Saving fuel and keeping a small environmental footprint aren't the only reasons to drive a hybrid or electric vehicle. Many auto insurance providers also offer discounts for owning or leasing these vehicles. If you currently drive a hybrid or electric car, truck or SUV, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider to see if you qualify.

Exploring Motorcycle Insurance

Hello, I'm Neil Boggs. I am crazy about riding motorcycles around town whenever I can. Since I live in a rainy city, I've been involved in more close calls than I'm comfortable admitting. Other drivers just don't seem to see motorcyclists despite having headlights on or loud exhaust pipes. Those close calls drove me to obtain a full coverage policy for my bike, even though it's not legally required in my city. In addition to medical coverage for myself and my passenger, I wanted all collision repairs covered in the event of an accident. I also elected to secure comprehensive coverage in the event of vandalism or theft damage or losses. I will discuss the various coverage types and amounts you can obtain for your motorcycle. I hope others will follow my lead and obtain full coverage to protect themselves from financial ruin after an accident or vandalism situation. Thanks.
