Understanding Moving Truck Insurance

Blog

If you plan on hiring a moving truck and executing a DIY move, know from the onset that you will need adequate insurance coverage for the truck during the move. Here are some important things you should know about this type of coverage.

It May Not Be Included In Your Regular Auto Insurance Coverage

Most people rely on their standard auto insurance coverage when renting cars. This makes sense because, in most cases, standard auto insurance coverage does extend to rental cars. However, this doesn't apply to all rental cars, moving trucks included. This is particularly true with large moving trucks and specific time limitations may apply. This means you should not automatically assume that your existing coverage will extend to the moving truck.

It May Not Be Included In Your Credit Card

In addition to personal/standard auto insurance coverage, many people also rely on their credit cards when renting cars. Again, however, the coverage you may get from your credit card company may only extend to small cars and not to rental trucks. At the very least, you should give your credit card company a call and confirm that your moving truck is covered. In some cases, the coverage may be there but with a relatively low limit.

Don't Automatically Ignore Additional Coverage

The risks that you will face while driving a moving truck are very different from the normal risks you face when driving your regular truck. For example, moving trucks are larger than standard cars, which mean they can cause more extensive damages and injuries than standard cars in case of an accident. Protect yourself from that elevated risk of liability by buying supplemental liability insurance. Other additional or supplemental coverage to consider include damage waiver and cargo insurance, among others.

You May Not Have the Option to Cherry Pick Coverage

Before renting a moving truck, consider that some big moving companies don't offer truck insurance coverage a la carte. Such big companies offer their customers a coverage bundle, or a choice of insurance coverage bundles that you can either take or leave; you don't have the option to cherry pick what you want and leave what you don't. This may be convenient, but it may be unnecessary and expensive if you already have some coverage from other companies, such as your credit card insurer.

Hopefully, nothing will go wrong during your move. However, it is good to know that the risks you may face on the road are covered by insurance, and you can file a claim if there is a need. For more information, contact a company like Budget Insurance Offices Inc.

Exploring Motorcycle Insurance

Hello, I'm Neil Boggs. I am crazy about riding motorcycles around town whenever I can. Since I live in a rainy city, I've been involved in more close calls than I'm comfortable admitting. Other drivers just don't seem to see motorcyclists despite having headlights on or loud exhaust pipes. Those close calls drove me to obtain a full coverage policy for my bike, even though it's not legally required in my city. In addition to medical coverage for myself and my passenger, I wanted all collision repairs covered in the event of an accident. I also elected to secure comprehensive coverage in the event of vandalism or theft damage or losses. I will discuss the various coverage types and amounts you can obtain for your motorcycle. I hope others will follow my lead and obtain full coverage to protect themselves from financial ruin after an accident or vandalism situation. Thanks.
